Wireless Connect

To pull a trailer with its own decoder so far were at least two wires necessary.
see trailer decoder

It can also be the data transmission via an infrared connection.

This is also a way to more easily decouple the trailer, even to reconnect.

How wireless transmission works

Data is sent to the trailer via the serial output of the decoder.

The trailer signal is taken from the decoder via a series resistor of 220 ohms and transferred to an IR LED.
This LED is above the coupling of the tractor and radiates towards the towing eye. The LED must be mounted at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
In the triangle is the IR phototransistor. This is located directly behind the towing eye.
Max. Distance to the IR-LED not more than +/- 1 cm!
For the phototransistor, a special type with a large reception range has been selected.

In the trailer comes the IR amplifier (IRVA), which is connected to the serial input of the decoder.

It should be clear that the trailer has its own battery, on / off switch and charging port must have.

But there is a even better solution!
A magnetic clutch with reed switch that automatically shuts off the trailer decoder when the trailer is disconnected. This looks like this:

How it works with automatic shutdown

The reed switch is closed by the magnet and turns on the trailer decoder.
When the trailer is suspended, the magnetic field is interrupted.
A metal filler ensures that the magnetic connection is strong enough to pull the trailer.
